The DoseNet project, managed by the RadWatch group at UC Berkeley as part of the IRC’s education and outreach arm, aims to put networked dosimeter devices in schools around the Bay Area with the data collated and displayed through an interactive map. This network is now live, with near real-time data being displayed from locations on the UC Berkeley campus and the first two partner schools, Campolindo High School in Moraga and Pinewood School in Los Altos.
This network will give both the public and students access to real world background radiation data and the associated temporal and geographic variations in order to better understand the presence of environmental radiation. In the future, we hope to expand to a wider range of locations and sensor types (UV, air quality, temperature, etc.), with students able to directly contribute to the addition of these new sensors.
